Introducing Letters of Egypt
Hi all,
I have very exciting news for you. Today, I am introducing Letters of Egypt. But what are Letters of Egypt, I imagine you're asking. Well, Letters of Egypt comprises five short stories that take place before the events of Treasures of Egypt: The Spear & The Scythe. They follow the events of the two years leading up to the first chapter. But there's a twist, and it’s my favorite part about these stories. Let me explain.
As you may already know, Treasures of Egypt is set in ancient Egypt, more specifically during the reign of Ramesses the Great. My favorite thing about ancient Egypt isn’t the monuments, the mythology, or the kings; my favorite thing is the letters. The ones written by ordinary Egyptians away from the propaganda of royal texts and the strict rules of religious texts. I can lose myself for hours reading the letters that were written by the Egyptians who lived thousands of years ago because that is when they shift from concepts to real humans in my head.
That’s why the twist with the five short stories that I am sharing with you today is that these tales are told exclusively through letters that are sent and received by the characters. The letters themselves are written in a way that mimics the style of the time period. Now, I did allow myself some artistic liberties, of course, to make the text both entertaining and in line with the canon of Treasures of Egypt. I do hope you enjoy these stories.
